In a fast-paced collaboration, Shore Group Retail and Integrated Services successfully executed a comprehensive store transformation project, driven by a supplier-funded initiative on behalf of British American Tobacco (BAT). This engaging case study delves into the remarkable execution of this project, encompassing 265 SPAR brand stores nationwide within a tight 12-week window.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

AF Blakemore, the parent company of the SPAR brand, partnered with Shore Group Retail and Integrated Services to undertake a monumental task: the refurbishment of 265 stores across the country. The primary objective was the installation of new Cigarette and Vape gantries, requiring a range of critical services, including shelving installation, electrical work, carpentry, decorating, flooring, and consolidated materials supply.

SWIFT ACTION AND EFFECTIVE PLANNING

The challenge was immense - a mere 10 days from the initial request to project commencement. Josh Jones, Integrated Services Manager, recalls the urgency of the situation and emphasises the speed at which their in-house project management team mobilised to align with the client's expectations. The focus was on crafting a well-coordinated plan that catered to the specific needs of each store while optimising efficiency and minimising operational disruption.
"This project required fast action with 10 days from initial request to works commencing for 265 stores across the country. We mobilised an in-house project management team, working closely with the client, implementing and optimising the plan.”

COLLABORATIVE MOBILISATION

With the clock ticking, the Shore Group team sprang into action, demonstrating their capability in project execution. The collaborative approach they adopted with AF Blakemore was pivotal in ensuring a seamless transition for each store. The project spanned a considerable 12-week duration, with the team bringing their expertise to multiple sites while maintaining quality and precision.

DELICATE BALANCING ACT: RETAIL OPERATIONS AMIDST TRANSFORMATION

A highlight of the project was the ingenious strategy employed to minimise the impact on day-to-day retail operations. By deploying multi-traders skilled in various disciplines, the need for multiple visits was mitigated. This not only streamlined the process but also eased the logistical burden on-site. An additional feat was the remarkable ability to ensure that all 265 stores remained open throughout the transformation, providing a safe and conducive environment for both employees and customers.
"The programme was designed to minimise the impact on their retail operations, with multi-traders reducing the operatives required on-site. We've had excellent feedback regarding the quality of the works.”

DIVERSE EXPERTISE IN ACTION

The scope of the project was as diverse as it was challenging. Carpenters, flooring experts, decorators, and electricians collaborated seamlessly to ensure that every detail of the transformation was executed to perfection. The result was not just a set of renovated stores, but a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing environment that aligned with the updated branding and enhanced the overall customer experience.
